Exploring Government Data

Page's Data section lets you browse all government activities tracked by Page, whether or not they're relevant to your profiles. This is useful for general research, discovering new areas of interest, and understanding the broader context of government activity.

Accessing the Data Explorer

In the left menu under "Data" in the main navigation, you can deep dive into any of the sections to find more information. You'll see options to browse by:

  • Government - Select a specific jurisdiction

  • Session - Choose a legislative session or parliament

  • Content type - Browse meetings, bills, politicians, etc.

Navigating Government Structures

Selecting a Government

Use the government selector to choose which jurisdiction you want to explore:

  • Federal governments (Canada, United States)

  • Provincial and state governments

  • Municipal governments (where available)

Selecting a Session

Most governments organize their work into sessions or parliaments. Select the current session to see active legislation and recent meetings, or choose a past session to browse historical data.

Browsing Meetings

Recent Meetings

The "Recent" view shows the latest meetings across all chambers, committees, and boards:

  • View meetings in chronological order

  • See which meetings have AI-generated insights

  • Filter by date range

  • Browse statistics about analyzed meeting content

Chambers

Browse meetings by legislative chamber:

  • House of Commons / House of Representatives / Legislative Assembly - Lower house proceedings

  • Senate - Upper house proceedings (where applicable)

  • View Question Periods, debates, and readings

Committees

Explore committee meetings and hearings:

  • Browse all committees by chamber or jurisdiction

  • View committee descriptions and mandates

  • See recent meetings and upcoming sessions

  • Track specific committees by starring them

Board of Internal Economy (Canada Federal)

For the Canadian Parliament, access Board of Internal Economy meetings, which handle parliamentary administration and budgets.

Viewing Meeting Details

Click on any meeting to view its full details:

Meeting Summary

  • AI-generated summary - Overview of key discussions and decisions

  • Key takeaways - Important points from the meeting

  • Witnesses - Who testified or appeared (if applicable)

  • Politicians - Who participated in the discussion

Meeting Transcript

  • Full text transcript with speaker identification

  • Search within the transcript

  • See which entities (people, bills, locations) were mentioned

  • Language toggle for bilingual content (Canadian meetings)

Audio

  • Listen to meeting audio with synchronized transcript

Note on Availability

Not all meetings have video or audio available. Availability depends on what the government publishes. AI summaries and insights are generated for meetings with transcripts.

Bill Index

View all bills for a government and session:

  • Filter by status (in progress, passed, failed)

  • Sort by introduction date or bill number

  • Search by keyword or bill number

  • See bill sponsors and key supporters

Bill Details

Click on a bill to view:

  • AI-generated summary - Overview of the bill's purpose and key provisions

  • Current status - What stage the bill is at

  • Legislative timeline - History of readings and votes

  • Sponsors and supporters - Who introduced and backs the bill

  • Full text - Complete bill text with versions for each stage

  • Amendments - Changes made during the legislative process

  • Related meetings - Committee hearings and debates about this bill

Bill Versions and Comparisons

  • View different versions of a bill as it progresses

  • See side-by-side comparisons highlighting changes

  • Understand how amendments have modified the bill

Tracking Bills

Star or track bills to:

  • Keep them in your starred items for quick access

  • Receive notifications about updates (if tracking)

  • Monitor legislation important to your work

For Canadian governments, browse pressers (press conferences):

  • Government announcements

  • Minister statements and Q&A

For Canadian government content, Page provides bilingual support:

  • Language toggle - Switch between English and French for transcripts and summaries
